Hospital for Sinners or Hotel for Saints?

Phil Robertson

About this sermon

Phil Robertson teaches from that the Lord’s church is a hospital for sinners, not a hotel for saints. First, he shows what the church is not. It is about Jesus, not just social gatherings or charity. Being a sound church is about what it does, not only what it doesn’t do. Next, Paul’s teachers equip the saints, so the church is like a hospital where the great physician cares for everyone as they keep growing. Then, every member is called to the work of ministry, serving one another and the lost. Finally, the church edifies, stirring one another up to love and good works.

Introduction

Good to see everybody tonight. Thank you so much for all the kindness this morning. And for those of you who may not know, I actually went to a home this afternoon to eat brisket, and I was part of an MMA battle. It was amazing. You talk about family. This was a true brother and sister family day. It was so much fun. We argued barbecue potatoes. We argued just about everything. It was a blast. And so I need to warn you, I’ve had two double shot lattes this afternoon. So you’ve been warned. But good to see you. Thank you so much for coming back and for your love for the Lord, your love for his people, and your love for his word. If you have the heavenly library with you, let me invite you to take down the book of Ephesians and go to Ephesians chapter 4.

Ephesians chapter 4. This will be the focus of much of our time this evening. Before we get into the text, though, I want to share a story with you.

In fact, she was working so hard and so diligent that her mom just couldn’t help but walk up to her and say, Honey, what are you drawing? Without lifting up her head and without even stopping drawing, she goes, I am drawing a picture of God. Well, her mom went, Well, that was nice. And she began to walk away, and then it hit her, oh, this is a teaching moment. I can’t just let that go. So she went back to her little girl who was still drawing frantically. And she said, Honey, I appreciate all your effort, but I’ve got to tell you, nobody knows what God looks like. Without looking up, the little girl goes, They will in a moment.

You just love kids, right? We love children for their ability to think, their ability to not be inhibited by all the barriers that seem to him us in at times. And we love children. We love their imagination. We love their faith. We love their diligence with their faith. But isn’t it interesting when you think about it? 66 books that make up the heavenly library written by 40 different authors over a time span of 1,500 years, and there’s not one physical description of our Lord. Even when he came in the flesh and dwelt among us, and four authors give us an account of his daily life at what we call the gospels, and not one of them began to describe him the way we would describe someone.

And think about it. Even when you’re trying to describe somebody to someone else, you say, Have you met so and so?

No, you went, his name’s Phil Robertson, and he looks like Michael Scott, right? That’s what you did. That’s what you did. I had a lady argue with me once at Epcot. She came up to me while we were standing in line at Guest Relations, and she goes, It’s you. And I went, Yes, ma’am, it’s me. She goes, You’re Steve Correll. And I went, No, ma’am, I’m really not. And she goes, Yes, you are. My son’s sitting there, he was about nine at the time. He kept looking, and I’m like, no, ma’am, I’m really not. She goes, Oh, yes, you are. She goes, You’re just trying to lay low so nobody hangs. I said, Yes, ma’am, that’s exactly what I’m doing. And she goes off and tells her ready.

But that’s us, isn’t it? We get caught up in physical description. And I know each and every one of us, if you had the opportunity to do what the disciples did, and you were going to give a historical account. We would say, well, here’s what he looks like. But we don’t get that in Scripture. Isn’t that fascinating? But while we do not have a clear description of what our Lord looks like. Scripture does give us a clear picture of what the bride of our Lord looks like. Tonight I want to take it a step further this morning when we talked about the kingdom. Well, let’s think about the kingdom in light of our Lord’s church. And here’s what I want you. Here’s what I want you to try to grapple with in your mind.

1. What the Church Is Not

What does the church look like? Is it a hotel for saints? Is it a place where we should always find ease and comfort, no problems? Everything is just like a good, nice hotel, or is it a hospital? They can be a little messy. They can be filled with people who are in need and people who have great challenges. I want you to think about that as we go through the lesson. Because we want to have a clear description of what the Bible actually tells us about the Lord’s church. So let’s kind of jump into it and let’s consider just briefly what the church is not, because we live in a society. In fact, this is one of the things that you’ll find in the United States of America.

Ever since a nation that was built on the establishment of freedom of religion, you immediately had different churches, and the denominational boom just explodes. And so I would imagine that many of you, just on your drive here tonight, you probably pass many different churches.

And in fact, when you think about building the church and establishing it the way Jesus would really want to do it, you make sure that everybody feels so comfortable that they in no way at all are inhibited from coming back. So therefore, don’t use a word hell. Don’t say how.

Of the invisible God. He is the firstborn of all creation. And for by him all things were created in the heavens and on the earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or principalities or powers, and catch this. And all things, all things were created through him and for him. He is the head of the body, the church. A little bit later in Ephesians 1, the exact same mindset. No, the church is about Jesus. But then some may say, no.

I just told you I had a great social afternoon. The church should be about things that are social, things that inspire people to really want to get together. And therefore, we need to encourage people to gather. And whatever you can do to get them together, that’s what you do. I’m a news junkie for those of you who may not know this in my former life. I did a little journalism. And I found this church. I’m not going to tell you where it is, and you’ll know why in just a moment. But they realized they didn’t have your problem. They didn’t have a lot of 20 somethings and 30 somethings. All right. They were not like a deck of prairie where the average age is 13. And so they said, we got to beef up this young crowd.

Here’s what we’re going to do. And they realized, hey, we got a basement. How about we use it? So here’s what they did. You ready? Kid you not. True story. They built a brewery in the basement of the church and brewed their own beer. Called it winged lion. Sounds kind of religious, doesn’t it? And guess what? The 20 and 30 something crowd? I’m not going to tell you where it is because I don’t want to lose you. But it is interesting. I love social things. In fact, I would make an argument that we need to get together. But isn’t it interesting in John chapter 6 that when Jesus had fed a great crowd and they came back the next day, you would think he would be excited.

They all came back, but he said, No, you’re only here for the food. Kitchen’s closed. In fact, you need to be eating me. And he got really kind of weird with his theology then. And he was challenging them. Because he says, I’m the true manna. I’m what you need. You need to be feeding on the bread of life, not just fish and loaves. Well, some would then say, well, wait a minute. No, the church really, if you’re really going to build a strong church, it needs to be all about charitable organizations and organizations that are helping relieve man and all of man’s social issues and physical issues. And again, I would say, yes, individually, we definitely need to be a part of that. But isn’t it interesting that in 1 Timothy chapter 5, the Apostle Paul says, hey, when it comes to widows, the church should not be burdened with the care of a widow unless she meets a certain criteria.

And ultimately, he was saying, if she doesn’t have family or she’s at a certain age and can’t provide for herself, then burden the church. But until then, the church is not focused on all the physical needs of man. Friend of mine by the name of Mark Copeland said it like this. Losing its spiritual focus, the congregation becomes a business instead of a body, a foundation instead of a family, and a corporation instead of a church. Unquote. And I think there’s some truth in that. Anybody hear a runner? Go ahead. There’s one. It’s just us, man. I know almost everywhere I go, I ask that question. And the people that really want to raise their hand go, do I admit it? Because here’s what we all here’s what the rest of you think about runners.

You just run. Is a bear chasing you? What’s going on here? You know, I was like, why are you running? You don’t you have a car? I’ll drive you. Where do you need to go? But some people run. Some people do it for exercise. I used to do it. If I was running half marathons, I even ran a couple of marathons. And like anybody who probably gets into a hobby, you start reading all about it. So what I did is I got into this magazine. Some of you probably haven’t heard of it, but it was called Runner’s World.

And the more I read about them, the more I realized we got a lot in common. They don’t run when their body hurts. I never run when my body hurts. They don’t eat a lot of sweets. I don’t eat a lot of sweets. They take it easy on training and love to take off days. I love to take off days. And what it began, what began to realize I began to realize was I have a lot in common with these world-class runners. I must be a world-class runner and didn’t even know it. You know why you laughed? Because that’s the dumbest thing you’ve ever heard.

Being a world-class runner is not what you don’t do. It’s about what you do. Being the Lord’s church. And more importantly, being a sound church, is not just what you don’t do. It’s about what are you doing? You ever heard that terminology? Is this a sound church? I’ve answered the phone when somebody’s called the building before and they go, hey, we’re looking for a church we’re going to be visiting. Is this a sound church? And I said, What do you mean by sound? They say, Well, do you do this? Do you have this? Do you spend your money on this? And I say, nope, no. Oh, good. We’ve been looking for a sound church. And I went, that’s your criteria. What if? What if a church is losing half of its children to the world?

Would you call it sound? What if there’s not evangelism and there’s no souls being saved and it isn’t a part of what is that family and it isn’t routinely happening? Would you call it sound? Fact of the matter is we need to be careful about our definitions and make sure we’re looking exactly how the Lord wants his church to look. So if you would go to Ephesians chapter 4. Ephesians chapter 4, and I want to begin reading in verse 11, because I believe right here, the Apostle Paul puts the focus on the church. And what he does, beginning in verse 11, is he begins to describe all those who may have some sort of a leadership position in the church. He’s going to talk about apostles and prophets, evangelists, shepherds, teachers, and what all these positions have in common is that they’re all teaching positions.

Because this is what the church is all about. Verse 12. To equip the saints for the work of ministry, for the building up of the body of Christ until we all attain to the unity of faith and of the knowledge of the Son of God to mature manhood to the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ. So that we are no longer to be children tossed to and fro by the waves and carried about by every wind of doctrine, by human cunning, by craftiness and deceitful schemes. Rather, speaking the truth in love, we are to grow up in every way into him who is the head into Christ, from whom the whole body joined and held together by every joint with which it is equipped, which each part is working properly, makes the body grow, so that it builds itself up in love.

2. Perfecting the Saints: A Hospital, Not a Hotel

When you talk about building the Lord’s church, I want you to recognize that here’s exactly what Paul tells us the church looks like. The first thing it looks like is it looks like, if you will, a school.

Perfecting the saints. What does this imply? It implies developing to maturity. It’s the idea of taking someone and giving them the equipment or the equipment they need so that they can properly function. In fact, it was used as a word in the Greek of the idea of a steward who would keep a house in order or a doctor that would put everything back together with an individual. In other words, the church looks a little like a hospital. You ever really thought about how a hospital works? Most of us probably don’t like to visit hospitals, do you? It’s a little challenging. It’s a little uneasy. But if somebody is in critical need and maybe they’re in a situation where it’s an emergency, an ambulance will show up and immediately the paramedics begin to work on them and they whisk them away to the hospital and they take them straight to the emergency room.

Why? Because their life is in danger. And so immediately the staff runs to them, and there’s immediately, if you will, this all out effort to save them. Family will be sitting in the waiting room anxiously waiting and waiting and waiting. And maybe after an hour or two, the doctor comes out and says, They’re gonna make it. When you hear those words, do you jump up and go, oh, great, let’s go get some ice cream, we’re good. No. Because that person is still in need. Yes, they may make it, but where do they go next? They go to intensive care, right? And there they’re getting around the clock aid, and we want to keep them improving and keep them improving. And if they continue to improve, they may make it to a step down unit.

And then if they get any better, they may end up on the floor. And then eventually they may be so good that they’re able to walk up and down the hallways, keeping their gown close, of course, and carrying their IV pole and saying hey to others. When you think of us as Christians, we’re in the hospital, and the great physician is our doctor. Do you ever want to leave his care? Do you ever want to say, I’m good. I can do this on my own. Well, no. Because if you really think about what the church is to be and what the church is to look like, is it actually looks like a hospital. Now there are those who think it should be like a hotel, all right?

And here’s the way the hotel mindset works. We come into the building, and immediately there better not be anybody sitting in our seat. Right. And I would like when I come into the building that there be just a little bit of space and my Bible that I could leave right there. And some of you keep your footstool there so nobody ever takes it. And would the temperature could just be about I’m not picky, but 71.2 would be nice. And then I need so many people to come up and talk to me and ask me about how I’m doing. And it would be nice if Sister Smith would bring me a banana pudding every now and then.

And if I’m ever sick, you if you would please pray for me and visit me.

That’s what I want. In fact, if I ever come in and nobody talks to me, well, I just may need to look for a different place. You see, that’s a hotel mindset. And I want you to grasp that what Paul is saying to each and every one of us, when you become a part of the Lord’s body, you become a part of an organism that is working, in which every part is doing a part in service to the body. Now, let’s be honest. Some people are at different levels, but everybody’s in the hospital one way or another. And everybody needs one another. Because we’re always in the equipping business. All right, those of you who had kids, isn’t it an incredible journey? Do you remember that?

Remember that? I remember when Jill was born, that was about our firstborn, and remember she was born. I was so excited. I was so excited. I was like, I’d been reading all the books, what to expect when you’re expecting, and so I went through all that. And then in the end, okay, what do you expect the first year? And I read the book, and I was so excited. And so the very first day, here when she was born, and chilling her in the room together. Remember, the nurse came in and goes, Would you like for us to take your child down to the nursery? I went, no ma’am. I have read the books. Okay. I mean, I mean, I’ll never forget that lady. She just looked at me and she went, okay.

About 10 o’clock that night when I couldn’t get it to turn off. That nurse came back in and goes, Would you like for me to take that child today? Please. And I remember seriously breaking out into a sweat, going, What have I done? When my son was born, a year and a half later, I had that. In fact, you don’t even take too many pictures of your secondborn. You know, that’s the way it works. The firstborn gets all the pictures, all the love in the second born, hey, we’re good. Just sit there, you’ll be fine. Right? But then you get past the toddler years and they get past the infant years, then you’re into the toddler years, and what you’re back to, I don’t know what I’m doing.

You learn those years, and then they get into preteen, and you’re like, And then they become teenagers. God bless us all. It’s awesome. You start talking back. All parents should be armed with tasers.

And then you leave and go off to college. Every stage. Every stage takes a little more education, a little more time, a little more equipping. And the older folks at church just sit back and laugh at you. Oh, you think you’re done when they go off? No. But it’s an incredible journey. And what you do every step of the way is you do all you can to equip yourself to serve them. So that they can flourish and can grow because you love them more than they could ever imagine. Family. That’s how we relate to each other. In fact, I want you to listen to the way Peter says in 2 Peter 3 and in verse 18, speaking to all of us, grow. Every one of you continue to grow.

Grow in the grace and the knowledge of your Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To him be the glory both now and forever. Amen. You’re not in a hotel, you’re in a hospital. And every single one of us are constantly going to need the care of the great physician because every single one of us are going to need to grow, and every single one of us are going to need to flourish in good works. And every single one of us, as Paul will say to Timothy, that we need to grow and be willing to give and be willing to share in good works. Because every single one of us, as Peter will say in 2 Peter chapter 1, are saints who have been sanctified to give our lives to the Lord.

3. The Work of Ministry

So we’re in the equipping business. And here’s the way it works. You’re never done equipping. You’re never done. Because ultimately, notice what he goes on to say, Ephesians 4, verse 12. We’re encouraging everyone to be involved in ministry because every single one of us is involved in work. And this ministry, this ministry implies that there will be serving, that we’ll be supplying what is needed. All right, all right. Anybody here into the Greek? Y’all really into the Greek? I want you to look at the word work in Ephesians 4 12. You ready? You know what the word work means? Work. Whoa, wait. I thought I came to church, so I wouldn’t know. No. This is the best work there is. It is working in the Lord’s kingdom.

It is working with the Lord’s family. And just like you and I will do all the work we can for our children that we love them, we do all we can for our brethren because we love them. And every single one of us need to be in the ministry of serving one another. And sometimes that is work. It’s work. Have I ever told y’all the story where my worlds were colliding in the news business in church? Have I ever shared this with y’all? Okay. So I’m in the news business covering news stories. It was a blast. Yes, I’m one of those idiots who stood out in the hurricane. You know, listen, don’t knock until you tried it. That’s a lot of fun. It is really a lot of fun.

But one day we were doing a story, and what the deal was, there had been this guy who was hiding out in the pharmacies of grocery stores. What he would do is he would come in as a regular customer. He would go hide in a break room, and at night he would crawl up in the ceiling, drop down in the pharmacy, steal all the Laura tab and the oxycontin. Go up in the ceiling, wait for the store to open the next day, and he would drop down in the break room and then walk out like a customer, and they couldn’t catch him. But they always had video surveillance in the pharmacy. So, as a good newsman, we dubbed him the oxycotton bandit, and he’s terrorizing families and grocery stores everywhere.

That’s what you do. He was hitting store after store after store after store. And then one day we heard on the scanner, we got him, and he’s got all the drugs, and we went racing to the scene, and sure enough, we were the only station to be there for the capture of the oxycotton bandit. I called the newsroom early because it was real early in the day when they got him. I said, Hey, they got him, and we’re the only ones with the video. They’re getting all excited. Say, we’re gonna lead the six o’clock with this. This is great. And I was like, Oh, I got the lead story. This is awesome. I’m done for the day. And my cameraman goes, hey, Phil, why don’t you call the jail and see if he’ll talk to us?

Okay. So I called the jail, and the deputy called back a few minutes later and goes, hey, Phil, he said he would love to talk to you. I went, Oh, must be a channel nine watcher. Great. Here’s a little backstory you need to know. My photographer was not a Christian. And he knew I was a preacher as well. And he picked on me all the time. All you preachers want are money. All you want is money. You I wouldn’t go to your church for nothing. He just rode me hard, and I would try to get him to come to church, and we would talk spiritual things, and he just ripped on me, ripped on me, ripped on me, ripped on me. You need to know that.

Because when we got to the jail to interview this guy, and he came walking down the hallway in handcuffs and shackles. When they opened the door, and Sid’s rolling with his camera. And that guy walked in the room. He goes, Hey, Phil, remember me? I go to your church. No, you don’t. Sid is laughing so hard he can’t hold on to the camera. I don’t look at him. I sit there and do the interview with this guy, and he cries his eyes out, and he talks about he had all kinds of back problems. He got hooked on OxyContin, and this was the only way. And Phil, you got to help me. Phil, you got to help me. And come to find out, here was the deal.

I was preaching a meeting at another church. He visited one night with his girlfriend, so he thought that was my church. Anybody here struggling with oxycottin?

But how do I explain that to Sid? When we’re walking out of the jail, Sid’s already on his cell phone calling the newsroom. And as soon as he got a signal, he goes, Hey, y’all, put me on speaker. We interviewed the OxyContin bandit. I know why he’s hooked on drugs. He has to listen to Phil preach every Sunday. I get a headache all the time just riding in the live truck with him. I’m like, oh man. How am I ever going to get Sid? How am I ever going to reach him?

I didn’t know what to say. But after we got done editing the story, I wheeled around in the chair in the band and I looked at Sid and I said, Sid. He is one of mine. Because we’re a hospital for sinners. And I’m going to do what I can to help him. Because that’s what we do. So I did. Got the guy a good lawyer. Invited him to Bible studies. A few years later, when I got out of the news business, Sid called me. He goes, Hey, Phil, I want you to know something. I’m going to church now. I often wonder if that would be a little different. If I had said what I was thinking. No, you don’t. That’s not our people. You see. Churches work.

And every single one of us need to get in the work. And every single one of us need to have our own ministry. And there’s so many things that we can learn to do. Maybe we could be a person who is literally teaching the lost. And if you’ve ever been in a place or been with a family in Christ, and you know, well, everything’s done, everything’s filled up. Here’s what you can do. I trust me. There’s probably a great need for more personal workers. Right? And it doesn’t always have to be the person who’s studying. We have an evangelism team back at Val Rico. And so we have the greeters, we have the writers, we have the encouragers, and we have the studiers. But you teach the lost.

You encourage those that are weak. You’re all constantly looking for those who could use a pick-me-up, who could use some time, who could use some love. You care for your brethren. You find out who is hurting and who is need. You find out when the games are, and you go visit and watch the games, and you show an interest in every single body that you can, and you reach out to all men. Isn’t that what we’re told in Matthew chapter 25? When you consider as the Lord speaks to us about judgment, isn’t it interesting? And he says, here’s the sheep, and here’s what they look like. When I was naked, they clothed me. When I was hungry, they fed me. When I was thirsty, they gave me something to drink.

When I was in prison, they visited me. And they’re gonna say, Lord, when did we do that for you? When you did it for the least of these. You did it for me. Can I ask you a question? What’s your ministry? We’re equipping each other to work in a kingdom like no other. To imitate and emulate a king like no other. Who didn’t come to this earth to kick back and retire and deserve? But as he would tell his disciples, he came to work. For the night is coming when there will be no more work. And so when you think of the Lord’s church, think of the amazing work that we get to do together to serve and supply what is needed. Speaking of the lost, been a lot of surveys done on this, and I found this to be fairly accurate.

You ready? Not always, but for the most part, accurate. Why did somebody visit? Why did they come? Why would they initially even come to a church service? What was responsible for their visit? Well, 3% came because they had a special need. That’s why I came. I just walked in, came off the street. 6%, I like the minister. Obviously, that wasn’t here. That would be much higher. Much higher. Much higher. The six percent, I just like that guy. One percent. I came in the past. 5%. I really like the Bible classes. 0.5%. Oops. I just preached myself out of a job. I came because of a gospel meeting. You know why people visit? Because a friend invited me. Because you know the old adage, people don’t care what you know until they know how much you care.

4. The Church Is About Edification

It’s someone who took the time to reach out to show some love. To show some care. Who said, hey, I’d love for you to come and join me. I want you to see and experience what I get to experience every week. Can I invite you to our hospital? Where we build people up. But then thirdly, when you go back to the text and you look at what Paul says in Ephesians 4, verse 12, he says the church is about edification. And the word edify simply by definition means to build up and strengthen. And that’s what we’re about. We are those who are looking to comfort one another and to edify one another, as Paul says in 1 Timothy, 1 Thessalonians 5. In fact, it’s even more than that.

We want everyone to know they have a part here. Just out of curiosity, just say, is there anybody here who is an aggravating person? Alright, point them out to me. Who are they? All right, there we go. Listen. Loud and proud. Loud and faith. Trust me. All right. You know, hey, all you aggravators, do you know that there’s a Bible verse just for you? Really? In a fee, and in Hebrews chapter 10, we know verse 25, right? Don’t forsake the assembly. We kind of like to drop that one on somebody every now and then. Hey, don’t forsake the assembly as a matter of some. But do you know what it says in the preceding verses? Why we come together and what we’re all about? To stir up one another to love and good works.

Anybody want to guess what the word stir means? To aggravate. God’s giving you a license to be aggravating. Yes. But you’re not aggravating to be annoying. You’re stirring people up to love. And hear me on this. I need everybody right here. This is so important. I’m so happy you’re here. And if this is your first time to visit with us, you’ve come to a great place. And we want to spend more time together to love on you and to help you and encourage you. But if you’ve been a part of this family for a while, I want you to be stirred to work. Because it’s not good to do nothing. It’s not good for you to just simply be idle. What we’re about is encouraging one another to walk closely with the Lord.

And this is going to take some calculation. This is going to take some time. This is going to take some effort. And we want to help you to grow so that you can be one of those who is actually becoming an aid to others. In Ezekiel 3, the prophet speaks of one who is to be a watchman. We need to be on the lookout for things that are keeping people down, things that are taking souls away. In John chapter 12 and in verse 42, we need to be mindful that our faith shouldn’t be like the Pharisees. For if we truly believe in Jesus, we’re willing to confess Jesus before men. And as it says in Matthew 10 and in verse 23, Jesus will remind all of us that if we will confess him before others, he will confess us before the Father.

Conclusion

And I know those words are challenging. But that’s what the Lord’s church looks like. Because if you really think about it, the Lord didn’t intend for it to be a hospital. I mean, didn’t intend for it to be a hotel. He didn’t intend for it to always be easy and comfortable. He wants us to recognize that we’re all in the business. His business. If you’ll allow me to just read the final verses one more time. Till we all grow to the mature stature of the fullness of Christ. There we’re no longer children tossed to and fro by the waves and carried about by every wind of doctrine, by human cunning, by craftiness and deceitful schemes. But rather speaking the truth in love, we are to grow up in every way into him who is the head into Christ, from whom the whole body is joined and held together by every joint with which it is equipped.

When each part is working properly, makes the body grow so that it builds itself up in love. And when that’s the focus of the Lord’s church, there is a peace that guards the heart and the mind in Christ Jesus. Brethren, I’m not one of these who believes that the world is getting so tainted that souls can’t be saved today. Not at all.

May that not be us. May we be those who want to work in the kingdom? And we don’t run from the hospital. We don’t run from the challenge. We don’t run from the frustrations. We embrace each and every one of them as opportunities. Because we’re in a business like no other. The business of our Lord Jesus Christ. And there is nothing more joyous than seeing a heart give itself to Jesus. And maybe that’s you tonight. Maybe you’ve been pushing back. Maybe you’ve been finding excuse after excuse after excuse. Can I invite you to consider your Lord Jesus? Can I invite you to see that life is more than just a job and a home and things? That the true blessed life is being in Christ. And there is no greater purpose in this world than to join him in the work of his kingdom.

Because it’s a kingdom like no other. Can I invite you to a Savior who’s willing to serve? And can I invite you to the wonderful, glorious purpose of serving with Him?

One of the things that Jesus said in the Sermon on the Mount was this. We can store up treasures in one of two places. On the earth, it’s futile. You can do it. Mods destroy it. Thieves break in and steal it at the end of the day. Or you can store up treasures for eternity. I choose the latter. I choose to get in the work. I choose the great physician. If you would like to choose him tonight, if we can help you in any way in your walk with the Lord, once you come while we stand and sing.
